TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOURSELF

Supporting a friend or loved one living with Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) can be stressful. Taking time for yourself can help give you strength, so you can be there for your friend or loved one when needed.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FROM THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE FOR CAREPARTNERS

  • Make time for yourself
  • Take at least 10 to 15 minutes every day to do something for yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask for help

  • Understand your feelings
  • Take time to think about how you feel and what would help lift your spirits

  • Learn more about your loved one's disease
  • Understanding more about your friend or loved one’s cancer may help you feel more confident

  • Connect with your friend or loved one
  • If you can, take time to enjoy special moments together

  • Write in a journal
  • Writing down what you are feeling can help you deal with the stress of caring for your friend or loved one

  • Look for the positive
  • Looking for the good things in life and feeling grateful may help you feel better
